The null effect of vowel transposition in Korean visual word recognition
Abstract
This study investigates the vowel transposition effect in Korean visual word recognition. There have been some inconsistent reports as to whether the letter transposition effect is modulated by consonant/vowel status in visual word recognition. This research conducted two experiments to examine whether a vowel transposition effect emerges in Korean visual word recognition. A lexical decision task and a masked priming lexical decision task were employed, utilizing transposed and replaced conditions. Consistent with prior research on Korean visual word recognition, both experiments revealed a null effect for vowel transposition. This research discussed the results of the present study with respect to the previous findings and theoretical explanations on Korean visual word recognition.
