Abstract
This study aims to re-evaluate the findings reported in previous research that demonstrated a syllable transposition effect during the processing of Korean noun eojeols. To this end, the current study employed a priming paradigm to analyze responses to target eojeols rather than to meaningless nonwords. Results showed that the transposition condition elicited significantly faster RTs and a higher accuracy compared to the substitution condition, whereas no significant differences were observed in either RTs or accuracy between the substitution and the control conditions. These findings support the existing hypothesis that the syllable position encoding is flexible during the early stages of lexical access. Based on these results, implications for models explaining Korean visual eojeol recognition are discussed.
