Enhanced transformation of atenolol during water treatment with chlorine followed by UV: Reaction kinetics, transformation products, and mechanisms

Metadata Downloads
Abstract
The transformation of ATN can be significantly enhanced in UV/chlorine process via the photolysis of the NCl of ATN. To better understand the fate of ATN and its 2 oamine moiety in UV/chlorine process, the transformation kinetics, products, pathways, and mechanisms of the UV254nm photolysis of N-Cl ATN were investigated. The transformation rate of ATN by the photolysis of N-Cl ATN is significant. Transformation products were identified and quantified with a near complete mass balance. Reaction mechanisms are proposed based on formation of transformation products and several amine-containing model compounds.
