- Abstract
이러한 결과는 얕은 다공성 표면이 극초음속 경계층에서 난류 천이를 제어하기 위한 효과적인 수동 제어 기법임을 보여준다.|Laminar-to-turbulent transition in hypersonic boundary layers is a critical aerodynamic phenomenon that significantly influences the thermal and aerodynamic loads on high-speed vehicles. The sharp increase in surface heat flux and skin friction following transition onset highlights the necessity for effective transition control. This thesis numerically investigates transition control in hypersonic boundary layers using porous surfaces.
As a prerequisite for transition-control studies, a high-fidelity computational framework for hypersonic boundary-layer transition is first established by coupling direct numerical simulation (DNS) with linear stability theory (LST). The dominant instability modes in the boundary layer are identified using LST and introduced as inlet forcing in DNS, enabling high-fidelity and cost-effective simulation of transition. The framework is applied to a fundamental-breakdown transition scenario in a hypersonic boundary layer over a straight cone. The DNS successfully captures key transition features, including the growth of instability modes, the formation of vortical structures, the transition-induced heat-flux increase, and the breakdown to turbulence. The influence of numerical dissipation associated with shock-capturing methods on transitional boundary layers is also examined, demonstrating that excessive artificial dissipation within the boundary layer can significantly alter transition behavior. These results provide a high-fidelity computational framework for accurate prediction and analysis of hypersonic boundary-layer transition.
Transition control using a porous surface is numerically investigated within the established computational framework. The porous surface is optimized using a reflection model to maximize the attenuation of the Mack second mode, one of the major instabilities in hypersonic boundary layers. In this study, practical fabrication constraints are incorporated into the design, resulting in a relatively shallow pore configuration compared to previous studies. The stabilization performance of the designed porous surface is evaluated using LST, showing effective suppression of instability modes over a wide range of frequencies. Transition delay is demonstrated within the LST-combined DNS framework. The porous surface is modeled using time-domain impedance boundary conditions to capture its acoustic response. It is demonstrated that suppression of the dominant instabilities weakens nonlinear modal interactions, leading to a significant delay of transition. The delayed transition results in substantial reductions in surface heat flux and skin friction. The computational results are further compared with experimental data to assess the reliability of the present approach. These findings demonstrate that porous surfaces provide an effective passive strategy for transition control in hypersonic boundary layers.
