- Abstract
- With the technology of automated vehicles tremendously evolving in recent years, the research and development in the artificial intelligence has become imperative to the successful automated vehicles that can respond to the various situations in a prompt and safe manner during automated driving.
One of the key factors in increasing the possibility of the drivers choosing automated vehicles is the implementation of the Non-Driving Related Task (NDRT) in automated driving. According to previous studies, the higher the level of automated driving is, the more actively the driver uses NDRT. However, depending on how highly automated driving is, the circumstances where an automated vehicle intervenes in manual driving occur in various ways, and sometimes they provide either an unsatisfactory or annoying experience to the drivers who want to perform NDRT.
The unsatisfactory situation a driver would face while executing NDRT occurs due to various factors such as self-interruption and information intervention from automated vehicle. If the driver's perception of the surrounding environment and driving situation is uncertain, the clarity and visibility decreases, resulting in a lack of reliability and anxiety about the automated vehicle. For the drivers to enjoy their improved NDRT experience and feel more confidence in automated driving, a system would be required to provide accurate driving information to the driver by using Windshield, HUD, etc. without compromising NDRT implementation. Therefore, this study aims to design a system that delivers the information on both the driver's condition and external circumstances to facilitate effective NDRT
