- Abstract
- In recent years, there is an attention in constructing a system with LPWANs to utilize the Internet-of-Things (IoT) in marine fisheries. However, since the LPWANs use a single-hop network, the farther the node is from the base station, the higher the performance requirement of the communication module. This causes the battery on the farther node to drain quickly. Thus, this problem leads to energy consumption unbalance of the node depending on the distance from the base station in the wide area network such as the marine environment.
In this paper, we use multi-hop LPWANs model to solve this problem and compare energy consumption with single-hop network. We use ring structure network model to construct a multi-hop network and measure energy consumption by distance. In this case, as the distance increases, the lower energy consumption of multi-hop case is confirmed. Also, we use three objective functions, which are bottleneck energy consumption, total energy consumption, and the Jain's Index, to analyze the optimal-hop combination and the energy consumption according to the objective functions. Finally, we redefine our problem using Multi-armed Bandit (MAB) strategy and solve this problem using e-greedy algorithm. We show that the time required to obtain the optimal-hop combination can be effectively reduced.
