- Abstract
- We present a real-time imaging modality which utilizes the field programmable gate array (FPGA) for spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). By adapting the FPGA as the operating and processing unit for an SD-OCT system, we could achieve a frame rate of 40 frames/sec with 1024 × 512 pixels per frame. The frame rate can be increased further, without changing the design but with optimization, which is significantly higher than computer based systems. This embedded system does not require any bulky desktop computer even for displaying tomographic images; it uses a VGA monitor through VDAC. The performance of the proposed system is presented with in vivo real-time images of biological samples.
