Abstract
A new symmetric sensing coil design is proposed for self-inductance-based metal object detection (MOD) of wireless vehicle (WEV) charging. Compared to conventional non-symmetric sensing coils, the proposed sensing coil provides uniform detection sensitivity and ease of manufacturing while maintaining blind-zone free feature. The proposed sensing coil is optimized with a metal object of 20x20mm2 in size for highest sensitivity and lowest number of sensing coils; hence, it can be applied to high power WEV charging application.
