Abstract
In this paper, a new decentralized electric vehicle (EV) charging coordination scheme is proposed for smart buildings. The goal of EV owners is to execute a charging schedule to minimize the overall operating costs based on the price information without releasing much of private information. In this manner, the proposed EV charging coordination is implemented with arbitrating aggregators without accessing the travel information of EV owners. Firstly, each EV offers battery state factors, such as charging or discharging availability, to the building energy management system (BEMS). Then, the BEMS derives the selling price of electricity at the designated times for the EV owner, based on the usability of the extra energy for reducing the peak power or overall electricity costs of the building. Finally, each EV finds out its own optimal charging strategy by jointly accounting the BEMS provided electricity price information and the grid offers. For evaluation of the proposed method, the parking record dataset from the public building is used with the time-of-use tariff electricity costs. Simulation results show that proposed price control-based decentralized EV coordination reduces overall electricity costs for both EV owners and an arbitration type aggregator of the buildings, while reducing the peak value.
