Abstract
End-stage renal disease is a disease that renal function decreases to 10% or less compared to normal people. Accordingly, patients replace kidney function with methods such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation. Peritonitis is the main complication of peritoneal dialysis patients, and it is the most important cause of conversion to hemodialysis or leading to death of the patient. Diagnosis and treatment of peritonitis are the most important areas of peritoneal dialysis management. Early diagnosis of peritonitis can be performed by separating and detecting the causative bacteria in real time. In this study, a dielectrophoresis based microfluidic device is developed to separate the main causative bacteria from dialysis fluid. The separation efficiency is about 52% in various conductivity conditions. The proposed device is expected to be able to perform the function of separating bacteria and help to detect the concentration of bacteria from peritoneal dialysis fluids of various patients.
