Abstract
When the temperature rises by 1℃, the number of food poisoning cases and patients increase by 5.27% and 6.18%, respectively. Under the continuous increase in temperature, the level of pathogenic microbial monitoring of drinking water is vulnerable especially in developing countries. Therefore, it is important to detect pathogens in water supply to provide safe drinking water and prevent waterborne diseases. One of the most important techniques for this is sample pretreatment for sensitive and reliable detection. Dielectrophoretic devices have been reported for continuous microbial separation and enrichment. The proposed device separated bacteria from the water through dielectrophoresis of the herringbone-shaped interdigitated electrodes. It is made of flexible PCB for integration of other functions and insertion into water tanks. The performance of the device was evaluated with pathogens (E. coli, S. aureus, S. typhimurium) in tap water. It showed 80% separation efficiency at the flow rate of mL/h level.
