Abstract
Peritoneal dialysis is the renal replacement therapy for patients with end-stage renal disease. This method is a treatment with a high quality of life because patients can do it at home by themselves and do daily life relatively freely. Peritonitis is a disease mainly caused by the carelessness of peritoneal dialysis patients and is known to be a significant cause of causing the death of patients. To diagnose peritonitis early on-site, isolating and counting leukocytes in the peritoneal dialysis fluid is essential. Accordingly, in this study, a microfluidic device that separates and concentrates particles from a fluid without external force or sheath fluid was developed. The performance was verified at various particle sizes and flow rates, and the separation efficiency was over 90% under all conditions. The proposed device is expected to be used as a part of a leukocyte counting device through future research.
