Abstract
1 ℃ of temperature rise leads to the increase in the numbers of cases and patients resulting from food poisoning by 5.27% and 6.18% respectively. As temperature continuously increases, especially developing countries got to be in harsh environment for pathogenic microbial monitoring of drinking water. Therefore, it is important to detect pathogens in drinking water to ensure the safe water quality and prevent waterborne diseases. Dielectrophoretic devices have been reported for continuous separation and detection of microorgasnisms. The proposed device separated bacteria through dielectrophoresis of the herringbone-shaped interdigitated electrodes. Then it detected the changes in electrical signals caused by bacteria attached to the detecting electrodes. Also it was made of flexible PCB for insertion into water tanks. The performance of the device was evaluated with pathogens (E. coli, S. aureus, S. typhimurium) in tap water, showing 500 CFU/mL of detection limit with 80% of separation efficiency.
