Abstract
Deterministic lateral displacement (DLD) devices are designed to precisely sort particles based on their size in a micropost array. The basic idea of the DLD is that the structure and geometry of the device uniquely determine the critical separation diameter of rigid spherical particles. It is generally accepted that the critical diameter depends only on the distance between adjacent posts and the row shift fraction. In practice, the separation efficiency is degraded, which is explained not only by the shape, deformability, and other internal properties of the particles but also by the shape and size of the posts and the depth of the microfluidic channel. This study shows the dependence of the critical diameter on the cylindrical post radius and the particle position along the height of the microchannel.
