Abstract
In developing countries, the level of pathogenicity is on the verge of danger for drinking water treatment plants and sanitation facilities, which is exacerbated by their large population. This causes the risk of spreading pathogens and the frequent occurrence of water-borne diseases. Therefore, it is important to detect pathogenic microorganisms in water to prevent water-borne diseases and ensure safe drinking water quality. Dielectrophoretic devices have been reported for continuous separation and rapid detection of bacteria. The proposed device detects and separates bacteria from drinking water based on dielectrophoresis. It is made of flexible PCB (FPCB) for inserting into water tanks and integrating of the other functions. The performance of the device was evaluated using E. coli, S. aureus and S. typhimurium in tap water. It showed a detection limit of 626.4 CFU/mL with a separation efficiency of 70% at a flow rate of 1 mL/h.
