Development of an Automated Program for the Radioisotope Separation and Purification System

Metadata Downloads
Abstract
To produce the final product of radioactive isotopes, numerous experiments are required to optimize various variables. However, if the worker manually handles syringes containing radioactive isotopes, they will not only be exposed to high levels of radiation but also increase the risk of human errors. Therefore, in this study, a software was developed to remotely control the syringe pump and solenoid valve, aiming to minimize radiation exposure for the worker. Additionally, a feature was added to automatically control the process based on sequences written by the worker. This feature can process sequence data recorded in an Excel file, allowing the worker to modify the sequences by editing the Excel file without the need to modify the program code. Formulas were developed and validated to automatically calculate the volume and flow rate based on the type of syringe, enabling precise control of the syringe using a stepper motor. To monitor the progress of the task in real-time, the program's Graphical User Interface was updated to display the task progress. The developed program not only minimizes radiation exposure and human errors for the worker but also ensures the production of radioactive isotopes with consistent quality. © 2023 ICROS.
