Performance of functional polymer filters for preventing the ultrafine particles by electrospinning
- Abstract
- Ultrafine particles are too small to remove naturally if flow into our body once. Therefore the preventing the ultrafine
particles is one of the best ways to keep our health. Most of the commercialized filters remove the particles by the
electrostatic effect, which would be reduced as time goes by. In this study, we were fabricated to the nanofiber filters with
different air permeability and the performance of each filters for prevent the ultrafine particles without electrostatic effect
were characterized. Removal efficiency of polymer filters was up to 85% and those are higher than that of electrostatic
filter, when the sodium chloride aerosol sized 100, 200, and 300 nm. In addition, the fabricated filters have reasonable
pressure drops. There are almost no changes on removal efficiency after the synthesized filter treated by isopropyl alcohol
(IPA). However, IPA treated electrostatic filter showed rapid drop to 49.0% from 78.2% on its removal efficiency using
200 nm NaCl aerosol. In addition, the fabricated polymer filter showed good antibacterial activity of textiles.
