Preparation of Gradient Copolymers through Anionic Polymerization of Allyl Isocyanate and Hexyl Isocyanate

Metadata Downloads
Abstract
Polyisocyanate is an interesting material due to is helical structure, rigid backbone, and successive amide bond. Its polymerization and property have been studied for decades but there are only few study about functionalized polyisocyanate because its weak chemical resistance and harsh polymerization environment. In this study, we synthesized allyl isocyanate and hexyl isocyanate graft copolymer {P(AIC-g-HIC)} with high processability and double bond which can be functionalized. Time-dependent polymerization of {P(AIC-g-HIC)} was studied to reveal gradient structure. All polymer were synthesized by anionic polymerization method with -98 ℃ using sodium naphthalenide as bidirectional initiator. AIC homopolymerization showed termination behavior but single GPC peak (Mw/Mn < 1.2). Gradient structure was confirmed from investigating monomer conversion.
