Radial firing optical fiber tips for medical applications

Abstract

Simulation, fabrication, and optical properties of an optical fiber with a conical air-pocket tip for medical applications are presented. A novel and simple fabrication process using arc-discharge method for the fiber tip is introduced. The radially firing characteristics including the angle and intensity of the firing laser beams of the fiber tips are discussed.
