Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a serious metabolic disorder that has accelerated due to high carbohydrate consumption. Western diets are characterized by an abundance of fat and carbohydrates, particularly two major sources of fructose, sucrose, which contains 50% glucose and 50% fructose. Even with a larger research focus on fructose and NAFLD, the specific role of fructose in disease progression remains unknown.
