Abstract
The interference between magnetic and anisotropic tensor susceptibility (ATS) reflections was analyzed using resonant x-ray scattering (RXS) in GdB 4. By rotating the azimuthal angle, the resonance energy profiles of the magnetic and ATS reflections were separated. The hybridization of Gd 5d orbitals was revealed through the resonance energy profiles. The anisotropic charge distribution and spin polarization were realized on different portions of the split 5d bands. Hybridization was experienced by the rise of distorted upper band and isotropic lower energy band states that accounted for the ATS and magnetic scattering, respectively.
