Inelastic frozen-in stress in optical fibers

Metadata Downloads
Abstract
By measuring the axial stress profiles of optical fibers drawn at various drawing conditions we have verified the existence of non-elastic frozen-in stress in optical fibers, which is induced in fiber drawing process. We have observed that the average non-elastic axial stress along the cross-section of a fiber becomes larger as the drawing speed of a fiber is increased. We have explained this in terms of the anisotropy of glass structure induced by applied tension on a fiber in drawing processes. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
