A cross-layered network-adaptive video streaming using sender-driven wireless channel monitoring

Metadata Downloads
Abstract
In this letter, we propose a cross-layered network-adaptive video streaming system employing sender-driven wireless channel monitoring over a wireless LAN (WLAN). An intelligent sender with an embedded wireless access point (AP) estimates time-varying available bandwidth based on the observed transmission statistics of medium access control (MAC) and physical (PHY) layers. The estimated available bandwidth is then utilized to dynamically guide the network-adaptive control of temporally-scalable video flows.
