A Novel Method for Estimating Multilayer Coil Inductance

Abstract
In this letter, a new method for estimating the inductance of a coil with a large number of turns in a multilayer coil (MLC) form is suggested. An inductance formula for the MLC is derived, whose factors are obtained from coils with a small number of turns. The factors in this formula are approximately represented by a polynomial of the number of coil turns in a layer. The coefficients of the polynomial are determined using the least squares method. The suggested method was validated using two practical examples, and the estimated inductances are shown to be accurate. © 2017 IEEE.
