Durable 12-arm resistive cross dipole for use in ground-penetrating radar

Metadata Downloads
Abstract
A 12-arm resistive cross-dipole antenna is proposed and implemented using planar resistor technology (PRT). To improve the quality of the radiated pulse, the arms are loaded with a profile that is modified from the conventional Wu-King profile. The antenna is implemented with no soldered resistors. Thus, the mechanical vulnerability of the conventional resistive dipoles is resolved. The performance of the antennas implemented using a standard printed circuit board and the PRT is shown to be essentially the same. The performance of the antenna implemented using the PRT as a ground-penetrating radar antenna is also demonstrated by scanning over buried targets.
