Abstract: We present human corneal nerves imaging using Fourier-domain optical coherence tomography. Since the three-dimensional (3D) image of the corneal nerves was acquired in vivo, it was suffering from artifacts due to unintentional movements of the subject during measurement. Those have been compensated by using a series of signal processing techniques, namely realigning A-scan images so as to flatten the boundary and taking the cross correlation between adjacent B-scan images. 3D volume imaging of a 10 × 10 mm2 area took 9.8 sec, slightly shorter than the normal tear breakup time (TBUT). This allowed us to image the branched and threadlike corneal nerve bundles within the human eye.</description>
